A new feature in S/4 HANA is the scope item that supports the filling of manufactured products into tank trailers from silos.
This newly implemented feature supports the transportation of products such as chemicals, vegetable oil, diesel, wine, and water.
Once a filling process order is submitted, tankers that require refueling are identified using a container ID. Weighing the tanker gives a more accurate reading of the available storage capacity and therefore the amount required to refill the tanker.
Using the container ID for reference, the amount of product required to fill the remaining capacity is allocated to the container ensuring that the tank is filled to the required level.
Using a simple quality calculation formula to determine the available capacity of a tanker allows for a more accurate reading of the tanker levels. This accuracy allows the appropriate batches to be prepared while waiting for the tanker's arrival.
Having an accurate batch prepared ensures that any waste is eliminated from the transport preparation process, meaning no product is brought that cannot be transported due to the tanker being over capacity. This eliminates wasted time transporting the product back to the warehouse it was brought from.
More accurate data is always good for a business. In this case, more accurate data prevents wasted time transporting unnecessary amounts of products. This reduces the cost of transporting unfilled products back to storage and improves the efficiency of the process as a whole.
It also gives the business an opportunity to improve transport efficiency in the future by having access to the tank's capacity before filling.
